Yes, they can. The wives of the Prophet a used to do so. Mother of the Believers 'Aishah رضی اللہ عنہ said,

‘The Holy Prophet a would perform spiritual retreat during the last ten days of Ramadan until his communion with His Lord. His wives continued to do so after his demise.’
